TRAINING UPDATES AND NEWS WEEK OF 7/13/09
Very fun last few days!  I was stoked to see how well everyone did at the club practice race!  As you saw, being in a race environment (even a casual one) changes everything!  But that experience is valuable.  Also very much enjoyed the surf entry clinic!  The waves were a bit small, but I think we got in some good practice and familiarization.  Especially given that it was the race venue.

Here is the news for this week!

SCHEDULE CHANGE!!! We will be combining the Race Preparation clinic with the Team Race Course briefing!  I know everyone has been having to do LOTS of driving to all our events, and I think this works better, as the material is related.  So this Thursdays’ prep clinic is cancelled and moved to be joined up with the Course Briefing next Weds the 22nd.  Location to be announced.

Monday Night: Braveheart Brick: 6:30 pm.  Info from Leslie below:
East Mission Bay Drive, San Diego, CA.  We set up just north of the entrance to Fiesta Island, on the grass beside the parking lot of the kiddies park (Tecolote Shores). Click here to see a map of where we meet.  We have an white EZ-up canopy so you should be able to see us!

What will the session involve?: Bike/run warm up of 15 min, followed by 3-5 sets of bike-run “brick” intervals. All bike intervals are done on the stationary trainer, and the run is on grass around a ¼ mile loop. The bike/run intervals are predominantly just under, at, or just over your lactate threshold (i.e., they hurt!). The session also focuses on the neuromuscular transition from biking to running. LEARN TO LOVE RUNNING OFF THE BIKE!!

What do you need?  - A stationary trainer ;  - A 1-2 inch plinth to raise your front wheel (a telephone directory or a thick book works!).  - Your bike and cycling shoes  - Running shoes  - Towel  - Water or energy drink  (2 x 24oz bottles of fluid is recommended)   - A BraveHeart!
There will be 6 spare stationary trainers available.  IF YOU HAVE A STATIONARY TRAINER PLEASE BRING IT!
Any Questions or if you get lost, call Lesley at: (619-318-3860).

Saturday morning; Bike Course Preview Ride:
We will be taking a leisurely ride along the bike course to get familiar with the lay of the land.  Meet in the B&L Bikes Solana Beach REAR parking lot (along the street to the west of and parallel with PCH.  We will be leaving at 9:00.  Helmet required.

Remember, in addition to these events to keep up your regular swim, run, and bike training, and to work on those weaknesses!

Take care!  Steve T and the Team Solana Staff
